Shaker Village***Canterbury New Hampshire

Entrance To Shaker

Welcome to Shaker Village is what the sign says as you wind your way up the road and see the breathtaking view!

Shaker Village was established in 1792 in the town of Canterbury, NH. Merrimack County. It has been designated a National Historic Landmark. The Village still retains 25 of its original Shaker buildings and 2 refurbished ones!

The Shakers made their living through farming, herbology and husbandry. They also did small scale manufacturing of many products including brooms, buckets and the famous "Shaker Boxes".

Sister Ethel Hudson was the last remaining resident . She died in 1992.

The site is now a Museum and is surrounded by 694 acres that are under a permanent conservation easement.

Do check their website for a schedule of events or try the wonderful on site Eatery-Shaker Table!

Joan, I have never been to Shaker Village, isn't that crazy? I have always wanted to go, but have never made it happen. We're a small state, but NH has so many wonderful places to visit.

Sue...Do go onto their site and check the schedule of events! Plan to spend the day...and a few bucks too! (It isn't in-expensive) They have really good programs and a facinating tour!

I know you would be inspired by the simplicity of their designs!

Your daughter should go and bring her watercolors! Beautiful scenery!
