Blueberries, Blueberries, Blueberries

                                                                                                    blueberries

This is my absolute favorite time of the Summer! I can blissfully overindulge in antioxidents that taste great too...BLUEBERRIES.

There are several pick-your-own farms in the Concord, NH area so nimble up those fingers, slap on the sunscreen and plan on freezing enough to last through the chill of February.

You won't be sorry you did!

Blueberry pancakes, blueberry muffins, warm blueberry compote over vanilla ice cream, I used to love collecting blueberries at my grandparents' home in Maine as a child! And just across the southern coastal border of New Hampshire into Massachusetts was a wonderful restaurant we would always stop at on the last day of vacation for a huge blueberry pancake breakfast. I can't remember the name, but I remember the blueberry pancakes! Ah...the memories!

Hi Rich....It could have been a Bickfords. They were a popular chain, especially for Breakfast, there are very few left!

Do you still have any family in this area? You seem to have spent a lot of time out this way!

Oh, Joan! I love blueberry picking and I can't wait to go! I have a great recipe from Maine for a blueberry cake that's awesome. Maybe a winery at the lake will have some blueberry wine, we're going to seek some out tomorrow!

Hi Joan...I try to have blueberries with my cereal every morning (although sometimes I'm running late and don't eat anything) and can usually find them most months of the year.  However, right now they are so plentiful and so much less expensive.

I brought home three pints the other day and my husband brought home a quart the same day.  He doesn't eat them so I'm like a stuffed blueberry muffin.

Hi Joan, I hope the healthful benefits of blueberries are enjoyed by Molly. I loved the video and I think this little baby knows what she likes and has great taste to boot. Nice going. The video is great fun.

I have a cousin who works at Children's Hospital in Springfield, MA a couple of uncles and a cousin in Holyoake, MA...most of my family has moved to Florida though. I spent many summer months growing up with family on Cape Cod, Narragansett, Watch Hill, Hampton Beach, Bar Harbor, and Holyoake. I spent several different week over the Christmas holidays while in college, snow skiing at Mt Snow, Killington, and Snuggler's Notch. I have many fond memories of New England.

Joan,

I was away at a resort in northern Ontario a few weeks ago and was picking wild blueberries on a granite outcrop. Do you have wild blueberries there? Our stores are filled with the cultivated kind right now and I have a pint in the refrigerator that I have to get eating....mmmm, homemade blueberry pie is my favourite.

I love how you presented this post!

What a cool video! Sean's father is visiting, and this morning asked me if we had any "berries" for his cereal. Nope- but when I went to the store, I grabbed a thing of strawberries. Why on EARTH didn't I read this before I left- he'd have had a much better berry for tomorrow a.m.!

Oooohhh, Joni.....I just love fresh berries of any kind.  One of the properties we looked at in NC was laden with blackberry bushes.  All I could think of was having a purple tongue and watching the deer come up to have a snack.

Now I'm hungry and it's the middle of the night~!

Hi Joan... I love blueberries... especially in pies and cobbler alsong with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!  YUM.  But on my diet these days I just eat them fresh, or as a snack I will enjoy a handful of dried blueberries.  And, for the record, the dried blueberries from Costco are the best!  Much plumper and flavorful than the ones at the supermarket!

Rich...I think it's high time you made a trip back!

Posted by Joan Mirantz- Concord New Hampshire Realtor (Keeler Family Realtors) about 1 year ago

Hi Jo....yes we have wild ones! Around my house they are ground ones and the bird get to them first but along the coast there are high bush. My  Dad has a few huge ones in his yard! They are very prolific too...

Thanks for the compliment! Enjoy that pie :-)

Carol...I love blackberies! We had huge blackberry bushes near where I lived as a kid. I had long tern purple lips...but it was worth it. That and scratches!

Any time frame on your move??

Posted by Joan Mirantz- Concord New Hampshire Realtor (Keeler Family Realtors) about 1 year ago

Hi Steve...I've never had dried bluberries except the chocolate covered ones! LOL

I'll have to look for them. I love to make Biscotti and use dried fruit (cranberries or cherries)I bet blueberries would be good!

I believe I average about a cup a day.  Blueberries are a favorite around here.  They are a bargain this time of the year.

Your title caught my attention. I have a nice little package of blueberries in my fridge right now =) And I frequently buy the "Blue Goodness" fruit smoothie from Bolthouse Farms. As a matter of fact, your post is making want to head for the fridge right now!
