We New Englanders may have a limited growing season...but we sure know how to make the most of it!
This time of year you could fill every day with activity featuring our own products. It could be an Agricultural Fair a Pick your Own Farm or a Farmers Market.
Farmers Markets have increased during the past few years. The Organic Movement has helped spur growth.
These Markets feature local produce, baked goods, canned goods, meats.....sometime livestock and of course crafts.

"I love what I do, and it shows in how I do it"

Just curious, in Illinois you can't put out vegatables before May 15 because of threat of frost. What is the date in your area?
My first tomatos will be picked this weekend.
David...sounds like our frost dates may be similar. We have had mostly squash, lettuces beans etc.(cold weather veggies) the hot spell of the past few weeks has pushed the early tomatoes...yum
Joan, I've been working with clients from Melrose, Mass this week and my accent has returned with a vengence! I love reading your blog because it brings back so many great memories and keeps me up to date on what's going on in 'my' neck of the woods. I'd love to get up to the Manchester Farmers Market, I'm sure things have changed since 1987!
That's big list! And it's nice to hear that local farmers are benefiting from the "Green" changes! =)
Hi Joan... I got to go to the Concord Farmers Market during my recent trip to your charming city. It was GREAT... nice variety of fresh produce, nice people, nice dogs and YUMMY tomatoes! :)
Joan, We usually have to drive out east to find these wonderful farms now...I miss them so much, they had such a wonderful variety of things that tasted not at all like store bought items.
Hi Joni,
Don't you just love this season when so many fresh products are available? I know I do. Enjoy.
Wow! I wish in our area we had access to as many farmers markets! You are blesses with a plethora of them.
That's a good list of farm markets. To find the nearest pick-your-own farm, see this page of NH PYO farms, (plus corn mazes, pumpkins and Christmas tree farms), organized by county:
http://www.pickyourown.org/NH.htm
There are also canning, freezing, drying and jam making directions.

There's nothing like a local piece of corn, tossed from the field into the bin, and snapped up immediately. While we don't have collective "markets", the farm stands are the highlight of the summer!
Debbie..Manchester has changed a lot-mostly improvement! I'm originally from MA and the accent is very distinctive!
Lisa...it's almost like a Fair you never know what you'll find!
Steve...see what you're missing!
Hey Carole...I would imagine in your area it is harder and harder...land has become so valuable!
Hi Cynthia...I do love it! Too bad it's so short!
Jim....you used one of my favorite words"plethora". And yes, there are still a lot of regular folks who grow or make their own and this is a great outlet!
Thanks Blake...that's a great link! I'm planning a feature on ones close to Concord in the near future! Watch for it! (Blueberris are my favorite)
Laurie...I thought it was Tag Sales? :-)
Hi Joan- One of my favorite things in life is a good Farmers Market. Sounds like your area has an abundance. There is nothing better than the findings of the locals and the fabulous flavors of fresh grown. They know when to harvest, that being when it is good to eat. Sure beats gassing food and trying to make what God hasn't finished , consumable.
William...you are so fortunate where you live. Your growing season is so much longer than ours!
It is definately a plus knowing the source!
Is that chocolate cake!?! Why didn't I spring for that scratch and sniff computer screen...DANG!
Rich...Yes that is CAKE...didn't they really try to come up with something like smellorama on TV...seems to me I remember something like that?
