We held out as long as we could! Concord NH Realtor Area Information
New Hampshire has just become the last but not least state in the Northeast to fold under the offer of "Free OIL" courtesy of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
The non-profit group, which was started by MA Rep. Joseph Kennedy Citizens Energy, will be managing the giveaway. But the State Energy Office will be overseeing and helping to sign up fuel-oil dealers.
The President of the Oil Heat Council of NH (Bob Garside) has predicted that many of the State's dealers will not participate. Many feel it is simply a case of political manipulation.
But....as we all know, a lot has changed. Oil has gone from $2.50/gal to $4.61 and they are predicting it will go higher by the heating season.

I am not familiar with any free oil program in NJ. I'll have to check it out. Veronica
So, I guess the question is: What isn't political manipulation? Pretty bad when we have to accept gifts from the likes of Chavez.
Didn't somebody say something once about looking a free horse in the mouth? If they start to give away free Natural Gas....give me a call!

Good for local homeowners to know- and your winters are pretty chilly!!
Joan, I'd have been happy to take Chavez' free oil, if it would help drive him bankrupt a little quicker. Given enough time, his socialist policies will drive the Venezuelan economy into the ground despite all the oil revenue.
Hi Joan... What's their slogan? "Sell your soul for some free oil?"
It's sad that we cannot take care of our own people without resorting to taking gifts from people like Hugo Chavez.
Joan, This was interesting to read, I'm not aware of it here in New York either--but it must be. I agree it's sad we're an oil dependant country and think many people are concerned about the upcoming winter.
I remember the days of oil heat and I don't miss them at all. It was horribly expensive even 30 years ago. I was hoping that our economy would strengthen so that we would not have to indulge in the "gifts" of Chavez.
Thanks Patricia...glad you stopped by!
Veronica...I had only heard about MA before this so who knows?
I agree Fred....whatever happened to we're #1??
LOL Bob....I think they're giving us gas already!
Laurie...They aren't making a big deal out of it in the local paper. A bit embarrassed maybe?
Brian...interesting perspective. maybe we could say we planned it that way?
No Steve...it's called swallow your pride to keep from freezing because that's exactly what will happen this Winter with prices as they are.
Hi Carole...I got the impression most or all of the North East was on board...maybe they just aren't bragging on it?
Hi Carol...I'm afraid we will be waiting a while for things to change! how is your house sale going?
I guess in the South we don't heat our homes with oil, I am unfamiliar with it as a heating method in my neck of the woods. I do know that my northern relatives (Massachusetts and Connecticut) have used it for as far back as I can remember. I agree with Carole, what is sad is that because of the refusal to seriously explore alternative fuel sources and their practical delivery to consumers, we now are dependent on foreign oil from countries whose policies we may not like at all.
Rich...this is going to be one hurtin part of the country come Winter. The oil from Venezuela is but a drop in the proverbial bucket! All I can think of is one With The Wind" and people burning furniture to stay warm hoping"tomorrow will be a better day"
Well I certainly didn;t imply that anyone should freeze, just that for the US to accept oil from someone like Hugo Chavez would be like Israel accepting oil from the president of Iran (who has announced his goal of eliminating Israel from the map). Like I said, there has to be some better alternative than crawling into bed with people who wish our country harm... like maybe spending some of the billions of dollars that we spend on the Iraq situation on providing heating oil to those in need.
Joan,
Free is good. If that idiot Chavez thinks this will help prop up his candidacy, so be it. Who cares? If Iran offered free oil to Israel, they'd be shrewd enough to take it.

Steve...I actually think one of he reasons our own government (Federal) hasn't stepped in is because this part of the country is the area most affected...and they tend to lean Blue!
I agree MIke...Do you think Chavez really thinks this will influence any US Leaders? Or is he looking at his world wide image?
