Commercial Construction In NH~What Was Hot Is Not...

buildingAccording to New Hampshire Business Review, Non-Residential Contracts in the State (manufacturing buildings, commercial buildings and hotels) were down 35% from this time a year ago.

However, Residential Construction saw a 9% increase from February 2007.

The whole picture shows Total Future Construction Contracts are down some $13 million from 2007!

The Commercial Sector was definately the hardest hit...down 55% in future contracts from a year ago.

The only significant gains were in Future Infrastructure Construction (roads bridges etc.) Those projects grew over 74%!bridge

It would seem that after the seeming immunity from the past volatility of the Residential Market...the Commercial segment has caught up!

I have a commercial condo that I have been trying to rent out for nearly a year now. Not a good thing.

Just the opposite here - commercial properties are selling like gold.  Residential on the other hand ...

Nathan...It had seemed a bit of an anomoly around here... the only phones ringing were for commercial. I guess it was just a lag or perhaps the realization that the financial world itself is in trouble...not just su-prime mortgages?Sorry if that dragged you down!

Joan, I'm not surprised that hotel construction is down.  With the high rices of fuel, people are looking for ways to travel less.
