LET'S PRETEND
There's nothing that appeals to me more...like when my Forsythia Bush became a Hideout and my Tricycle a Mighty Stead!
Now it's grown-up dreams! No holds barred, money no object, the sky's the limit and let your imagination soar.

My Dream House
I have always been an admirer of Frank Loyd Wright and his Organic Architecture designs. They are plain, simple and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. There is one not far from Concord, NH in Manchester. It's called the Zimmerman House. It is delightful!
In that spirit.....My house is small and cozy, no more than 1300sq.ft. It has an open floor plan with lots of Full Energy efficient windows so that no matter the time of day there is always an abundance of Natural Light.
My first "green" element will be Solar
I will use a combination of Natural Solar Design and Man Made Appliances. There will be Deciduous Trees planted on the East and West side of my dream home to keep it cool in Summer and Wind Breaks to keep down wind infiltration in Winter.
There will be Solar Panels on the roof to take advantage of the total Sun Exposure. The house will be built at the top of a mountain, not only to secure a wonderful view .....
but to catch the sun!
My second "green" element- Wind Power
Because I envision my entire home as being powered by electricity, I will go totally energy independent by also incorporating a Micro Wind Turbine. They are smaller and can operate on less wind speed. My "backup system" for those dreary days!
My third "green" element- a Pollution Free Indoor Environment
This will be my Retirement home. I plan to spend a lot of time just soaking in my surroundings. I will install an air exchange system to ensure a constant supply of fresh filtered air. And to help minimize indoor air pollution and to eliminate ground contaminant and disposal concerns I will use No Voc (Volatile Organic Compounds) Paints in calm and soothing colors to enhance my state of mind.
Our full basement (for my husbands workshop, media room and storage) will be treated with Radon Seal to eliminate any possible radon or mold concerns and to prevent water or moisture seepage.
My fourth "green" element- Furniture and Floors
The newest "hot" green building material is Bamboo....but it isn't a wood at all. It's a grass. Most of what we use is imported from Hunan China on "farms" specifically used to raise Bamboo. Bamboo floors are durable and very beautiful!
My "green"furniture will be made from Sustainable Wood or Reclaimed Materials, Bamboo, Recycled Metals and Plastics. It will all be special order of course....but money's no object!
My fifth "green"element- Eye Candy
While Mountain Vistas are the main attraction I want my backyard view to be equally remarkable. I want to sit on my veranda and "drink it in". I imagine an expansive garden with trees for shade, trails to tread and ponds for reflection
I imagine leisurely time......

"I love what I do, and it shows in how I do it"

I like how you dream---now where is this dream house located? For me, it must be in a warm climate. LOL!
Hi Joan, I like how you mention the furniture and floors! Those are often features that many do not think about. Great job on your Pink post!!
Joan - This is phenomenal. You are such a visionary!
PS - I love the svelt reindeer. ;)
Hi Carol...if I was a real visionary I would have saved my money!! LOL

Hi Jo...you must be out straight! You haven't posted in ages!!
I would actually really like that house...who knows? Stranger things have happened!
Good to see you...
Joan,
You're a Frank Lloyd Wright fan! Me, too. I just stopped by to thank you for your help with the stat counter. I'm almost illiterate about most of this stuff, and I learn from wonderful people like you. I sure appreciate the advice. Keep it coming.

Joan, Not bad for a Yankee. But if you come out west you may want to rethink size. We have lots of space out here. But I would want to caution you about Redding. There are a bunch of kooks running things up there. You can't even have a fireplace there. There is an abundance of wood. A wood burning fireplace for space and water heating should be environmentally economically friendly, but not there.
Let me be one of the first to welcome you to California.
Bill Roberts
Hi Bill...Do I want to know what the Yankee comment means?LOL Or do you just admire our Sports Team prowess?
Why would I re -think size?Resale? I'd plan on dying there!
My Brother lives in Los Molinos, just outside of Red Bluff (in the walnut groves) I wasn't crazy about there. The area I REALLY liked is Chico...I loved it there!
Believe me if we end up making the big move...I'll check it all out.
Thanks for stopping by...I have enjoyed following your banter with Bill Cherry.
