From The Heart

                                                                      sign

As the Christmas Holiday comes rushing towards us many will be thinking of hand made gifts or "Gifts From The Heart". With business uncertainty hanging in the air perhaps creativity should be at the top of the "List".  What better way to let someone know how you feel than by giving them something you have created yourself.

candy Not particularly creative? Well how about a gift from the kitchen. Cookies, breads, jams and jelly's, candy and even home made "Spirits" (Elegant, Impressive, Affordable Gift for Your Clients by Cynthia Tilghman)

Using a family proven favorite recipe is probably the way to go....but if you are feeling adventurous and are up for something new...don't be nervous there is Help out there!  Just like the Butterball hot-line for turkey help there are sources for Baking Help too. So if you don't know the difference between creaming and folding or sifted and divided, there is someone there to hold your hand.cake

One of them is the King Arthur Flour Co. King Arthur is located right here in New England in Norwich, Vt. Give them a call at #802-649-3717 or.....

  • Fleischmann's Yeast
  • 800-777-4959
  • General Mills
  • 800-446-1898
  • Nestle Toll House Information
  • 800-637-8537

Get creative in packaging put in a copy of the recipe and a cookie cutter....and you're good to go. Your gift will

be enjoyed and remembered. After all....it's a Gift From The Heart    heart

Joan,  I think many people appreciate Gifts from the Heart more then store bought gifts.  I know I love them because someone has cared enough to put their time and energy into them!  Thank you for sharing the information on the companies.

Joan - I love homemade 'gifts' of any kind.  My house is full of them.  To know that someone put the time, thought and effort into creating something for me is the biggest gift of all.

Merry Christmas to you and yours - and let me know when you're coming to Toledo.  :)

Joan - What a lovely post.  I have been the recipient of many thoughtful gifts from friends and family who shared their homemade gifts with me.  When we lived in Washington State, my husband and I used to pick berries.  I canned jams and pitted cherries for my parents.  They were generous to a fault except when it came to the canned goodies I made for them.  Thanks for bringing back a fond memory.

Hi Joan,
Thank you for the mention and link to my post!  I love to make homemade gifts, just finished making a batch of vanilla extract and put in wonderful little bottles I found at Michael's.  Next week I'm setting aside a "baking day".

Hi Joan...what a lovely gift. And you will use it every year and remember! Save me a seat!!

Hi Marlene...I never did master canning. I would love to but not only is it pricy to start from scratch with all the jars etc ...fruit is ridiculous!! I do think I can remember trying something once made with fruit juice and pectin?

Hi Cynthia...you're welcome. I just may make some of that liquor! Not that my friends drink.......

Hi Joan,

I love giving those kinds of gifts...I used to make amaretto balls every Chistmas and wrap them up on a pretty china Christmas plate for each of the secretaries at my office...I would add a recipe card with the recipe to the top.  They really appreciated it.

Now there are far too many support staff members for me to do that so we all give money into a group fund and one of our agents orders a basket or gift for each support staff member from all of us.

Thank you for reminding us that gifts from the heart are the most treasured,

I love your holiday picture, btw !

Hi Jo....That's a great idea. I did liquor candies one year and I should still have the booze..it was all rather exotic brandys etc. Maybe I'll do some again!

The picture was an attempt at a self portrait! It isn't very good but fit in the Holidy frame better than my regular one! HoHoHo

Uh, Joan?  Your friends drink, so try the recipe for me-uh, THEM.  While I am a HORRIFIC baker, my favorite "stuff" to receive is something made by someone.  I just tastes better!  Great ideas.

Joan, Homemade is the way to go. My Mom makes the best oatmeal bread on earth. Every Christmas we all look forward to a loaf of Mom's bread to take home. No other gift compares.

Hi Judy...bread is way too challenging for me. But I can do the banana, zucchini etc breads!

I love oatmeal bread!!

Hey Lysa...I just bought some stuff to make some Toffee candy and Cranberry Biscotti...only problem is that I like what I make too much and eat it!

Hi Julie...the way everyone's finances seem to be shapig up this year is just one more reason to go homemade!
