S.2191 A Step In The Right Direction

I was just reading an article in my local paper about what may be Disturbing Effects caused by Global Warming.

Eric Orff is a Wildlife Biologist formerly with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. He retired in June! His job was, in essence, Monitoring the Fine Balance of Mother Nature in our beautiful State. He is also a Blogger on a forum called New Hampshire Nature Notes. There unfortunately is no comments section

Over the years Mr. Orff has noticed a change in the Natural Rhythm of how and when Seasonal changes take place.  Crickets and Frogs are usually silenced by mid-October but now the Frost frost that signals those changes....did not happen till November. Rivers used by Snow machines are now Barely Frozen enough to walk on and there are large sections of open water. Many birds...No Longer Migrate.

Eric Orff has been calling attention to these environmental changes for years.

Fortunately there are those in positions of power who have chosen to no longer ignore......

Eric's article brought S.2191 (America's Climate Security Act of 2007) to my attention!

This is a bill to Limit Green House Gas Emmisions. If passed it would promote a Gradual Reduction emisionsin emissions from the present until 2050.  By 2050 there would be the anticipated Reduction of 70%.The Bill will include Financial Incentives for reducing emissions. It will also include $500 billion through 2030 for zero and low-carbon technology investments.

This measure has been recommended to the Full Committee on Environmental & Public Works.

Some may feel this Bill is lacking, that it doesn't go far enough...that may be so. But it is a Rare Bi-Partisan Effort , a step in he right direction and an acknowledgement that there is a serious problem.

We, as Realtors, need to Encourage These Efforts and Entreat Our Representatives to bring them to fruition.

We are Purveyors of the American Dream.

Joan I am not buying the global warming thing.  I think we have nothing to do with it.

John..to each it's own...but it wouldn't hurt to make improvements in our environment "just in case" now would it?

And I'll be generous and let you share my air!

Joan:  Here in arid Arizona we have seashells in the sides of mountains.  It used to be a lot warmer.  No smokestacks then either.  I do agree we should minimize our footprint on the earth, and Lady Bird Johnson was my favorite non-politician.  Texas highways look nicer carpeted with wildflowers and clover than they ever did with trash.  And you ARE up late!

Hello Mike...I'm not really up on all the theorys but I do know what I see and I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle....I/m a believer in pro-active. Reactive is often too late!

Joan, I can't think of anything we should be more careful with then our earth.  We need to do everything we can to perserve and protect it for our children and all future generations.  It starts with us, now.

Joan, Thank you for drawing our attention to this again...it's all so shocking and frightening and oh so very sad.

I'm currently undergoing certification for the National Association of Green Agents and Brokers and I intend to use everything I learn as much as I possibly can in my real estate business towards helping this planet and all of the creatures who call it home.

Joan, I'm looking out of my window at the gorgeous foliage, still happily attached to their trees- and now that I've read your post, I'm kind of wondering WHAT IT'S DOING THERE- usually by now, the trees are pretty much naked!  I don't know anything about global warming, so will take my cue from you to learn a bit about it.

Carole...It does seem like people are paying more attention.maybe something will actually be accomplished in our lifetime?

Laurie...I don't know much about it. I just have a sense of unease...life's rhythm is just not the same! And people who don't agree say we've always had global changes...that is true. But, it was over a span of billions of years...not in 10-25 year leaps!

Excellent Post Joan - Brings to mind a recent conversation.....the unseasonable warm weather has even our Towns seasoned  Veterinarian concerned about Global Warming....tics are living into late fall and winter and he is extracting them from Pets which is a first in his 25 years of practice!

Sincerely,

Joan - Great post!  I really hope everyone wakes up and starts changing their habits to become a greener society and help save our environment before we destroy it.

I couldn't agree with you more Joan. I think we need to start realizing that this is the one and only planet Earth. If we ruin it, we can't just pack up and move to a better nieghborhood.

Seriously, it really bothers me that is poo pooed by so many people! Thanks for commenting!

Joan;

Thanks for picking up on my Global Warming op-ed. Check out my weekly blog NH Nature Notes for more observations about NH's wildlife and changes I have seen over the last couple of decades as a wildlife biologist. More info on global warming is available on my web site as well at nhfishandwildlife.com

Eric...so nice of you to comment...sometimes I wonder if any one on the "outside" is reading!

I will be visiting you site and hopefully so willothers...I have a link to it above.

It's people like you who are sounding the alarm that finally seems to be reaching a "few" ears! thank you for what you do!

Joan, I too pay attention to the subtle little differences going on in the environment.  Like no bird songs in my neighborhood this winter.  S2191 souns like the right thing to do, but unfortunately all the indicators are that by then and actually much earlier than that it will be too late.  Why is the senate proposing a gradual reduction for the next 43 years?  That could be accomplished in much less time.  I say they are throwing a bone to all of us who are concerned.  More pandering for votes.  I'm done with this congress.  They can pander to me all they like.  I'm done!

Terry....I hear you! I'm afraid what little influence we have in Washinton extends only to who we vote in...which means nothing because ,as you say, they all pander.

At this point I think we all need to be looking at making changes at the "local" level and hope that it all "filters up"!
