New Hampshire Sunday Morning-#10 (Foliage Edition)

  sun

  Sunday Morning on CBS is one of my favorite programs. They always have a series

                  of  interesting stories from around the US, people to see and places to go!

                        I hope to pass on a little of the same........

                                                                   NEW HAMPSHIRE SUNDAY MORNING

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Exploring this wonderful State of New Hampshire is something my husband and I never tire of! There are so many diverse attractions and ever-changing landscapes...the possibilities are endless!
panorama
We started or trip from Concord NH and it was drizzling and cloudy but the weatherman had assured his viewers that sun would win out and the day would not be lost!
We headed North up Route 89 and as we approached the New London area road viewthe weather cleared and the view definitely improved.
A short time later as we approached Croyden we noticed several cars pulled over...their camera's out so, we decided to check it out!view lake
Hazy but Beautiful
We then turned off in the Lebanon/Hanover area to pick up Route #10 also known as the Dartmouth College Highway. I had not been on his route before. We came across some very, very interesting sights!
         The Bunten Farm(Orford, NH)Bunten Farm
This Farm is run by Bruce and Chris Balch.The Farm is named for Chris's Family who ran the farm for over 49 years. signThere have been Pumpkins grown and sold here for 51 years! Back in the early 1800's the farm was built by a Family known as Bickford. The bricks were made from clay on the Farms land.
standThe Balch's also raise Milking Devons.  Devons are a very rare breed. there are only 400 females in the world. The Balch's have 38. If you have heard of "clotted cream"made in England (imported for here)...it is made from the milk of Devons. Chris is experimenting with making cheeses cows and will be seeking Government certifications so her product can eventually be Marketed.
The Balch's have planned to open a Farmhouse Kitchen Restaurant (hopefully this Winter) so if you're up that way...be sure to stop!
                                                Bruce
Chris  CHRIS  &   BRUCE
We continued up Route #10 towards Bath, NH and their much photographed Covered Bridge#28.
We were unexpectedly distracted by a small "turnout" area that had a "Marker"Bath Sign that told of Bath's original settler, Jaasiel Harriman who built near the "Great Rock" and how his daughter Mercy carried dirt to the top of the rock to plant a garden.It was the First in town.
signsWe followed the small handmade signs!
  Afer a wonderful lunch...I would recommend this place to anyone! We left Bath and headed out to make the loop to head back home through the Notch. I got a bit side tracked on my "Foliage Objective"   I just had to get a picture of one of the most unusual houses I've ever seen (I am a Realtor after all!).
I just LOVE this time of year.  Thanks for another tour of New Hampshire in the fall!  I have been busy and didn't have a lot of time to take in all the autumn splendor.  Thanks for the wonderful adventure.
These pictures are beautiful and just what I imagined New Hampshire would be like. What colors and rustic beauty.
Joan, what got my attention was not the glorious foliage.  It was those Milking Devons.  It's a breed I'm not familiar with, and now I want to learn more.  Thanks for your series!
I love the beautiful fall pictures of all the colors changing.  I also love the look of the buildings you put here as well.  Reminds me when I lived up north.
Joan,  What a beautiful trip and pictures and story ! The colours are so gorgeous and I loved seeing all of the little stops you made along the way....the oval house is certainly something unique and interesting.
The slide show was very appealing also and I think you should have a sideline business going as a travel writer...
WOW, WOW, WOW.  I need to get into the car fast and start seeing what you've offered- unbelievably gorgeous.  I'd be surprised if your state doesn't have THE most gorgeous turn of season!
Joan - You have done it again!!  LOL  I look at your photos and SO want to make my trip up there now.  We always enjoyed heading up to Winnepesaukee and watching the trees/leaves around the lake change.  And a trip up into the Notch was always a must.  Take a ride out to Plymouth and Rumney one time.  The old bridges out there are gorgeous!  And the Pemigewassett is so peaceful!  Thanks for the dose of homesickness.  I won't hold it against you when we come up!  LOL
